First Week In Beijing

I have been in Beijing for a week now and all I gotta say is I love this place. My first day here was rough due to jet lag. Beijing is exactly half a day ahead of US East Coast time. I have been going to sleep early and waking up early every day, which is good because I enjoy getting a last hour of vocab review in the morning. My first class last Monday was intense, a lot more than I was expecting. I had to memorize 40 characters and be able to draw them the next day. To me, this task seemed impossible but it turned out to be easier than I thought. I guess that is what I should have expected getting 10 credits in eight weeks.

Dorm life here is pretty sweet. My dorm is on a pretty cool street. There are dozens of street vendors and little shops to explore. I can buy dumplings, noodles, rice, meat and any other Chinese delicacy you can think of and for an unreal price. For about six kuai or RMB (which is less than a dollar) you can pretty much buy almost as much food as you will need for a full day. For example I bought two chicken sandwiches, another time I bought like at least two pounds of noodles. Also the food here is awesome.

Public transportation is insane as well. The buses and the subways are so crowded. Like you are jammed wall to wall in side one of them, also they are very difficult to understand. My first day here I took the subway to Karrafour which is like the French version of Walmart. I ended up getting lost and wandering the city for a few hours. I found some very sketchy places but Beijing is a pretty safe place so no one will bother you but they may try and sell you prostitutes. I ended up signaling a cab and paying like two American dollars for it to take me to my dorm which turned out was pretty far away. Since then I have only done public transportation with friend because it isn’t the best idea to go out on your own anyways.

I did though buy myself a bike! I was looking for a bike shop and I stumbled upon two white guys. So I asked them if they knew where a bike store was. It turned out these guys were Swedes and leaving China soon so they sold me there bikes. They cleaned it, gave me a lock and gave me a pump all for 150kuai! It was a steal. Having a bike is awesome, this may be the smallest and cheapest bike ever but riding around Beijing is like no other experience I have ever had. It is extremely fun. My first day riding it I went to the mall, Starbucks and Pizza Hut, next I will ride it to the zoo! I feel like a local!

The night life here is insane. There are so many bars. In the Sanlitun the party never stops. That was an experience some of the things going on there are too vulgar to put on Tumblr. Chinese know how to party! Also the beer is really cheap, you can buy like a liter bottle for 2kuai (25 cents)! Alcohol laws are nonexistent, as well as driving rules. You can take you bottle anywhere and be as drunk as you want! Also street lights are optional, that or the cops just don’t care. Either way sorority girls would love Beijing, they can be as drunk as they want and they can legally suck at driving.

My first week here has been amazing. Eight weeks isn’t enough time! I want a year here. This place is so dope.

你们好。我叫贝柯楠。我很喜欢外国饭。我喜欢法国饭，中国饭，日本饭，韩国饭，可是我不喜欢英国饭。我爱墨西哥饭。墨西哥饭很辣。我去加利福尼亚的时候我常常吃墨西哥饭。加利福尼亚是墨西哥饭最好的地方。每天早上我都冲浪，下午我常常买墨西哥饭。寒假我去了墨西哥。墨西哥的天气很好，比密西西比的天气更好。天气热的时候，我和五杯水。如果我不忙，我先去冲浪，再吃饭，最后我去跳舞。我很喜欢墨西哥。明年暑假我去加利福尼亚和北京。我很高兴。谢谢大家！

你们好。我叫贝柯楠。今年暑假我去了夏威夷。夏威夷的天气很好比密西西比的天气更好。天气热的时候，我去打排球或者去海滩上玩儿。我很喜欢冲浪。我很喜欢冲浪。夏威夷是冲浪最好的地方。我也喜欢游泳和在海滩上跑步。我游泳和跑步都很快。我住的地方离檀香山不太远。我的家很大。我妈妈会做中国饭，他喜欢做家常豆腐。他的家常豆腐很好吃，我每天都吃豆腐。我也喜欢喝酸辣汤。我妈妈在唐里放醋和糖。因为我很喜欢咖啡，所以我每天都去星巴克。星巴克里我家不远，就在我家的前边。我总是要一杯咖啡，在咖啡里放牛奶和糖。夏威夷的饭很好吃，我常常在饭馆儿吃饭。吃完晚饭以后，我就去看夏威夷大学跟别的大学的美式足球比赛。我很想念夏威夷。明年我还要去夏威夷。希望你们也去夏威夷。因为夏威夷很好看。
